Primary Investigator status requires a full time, tenure-track appointment at Indiana University, eligibility to be a member of the Graduate Faculty, and an actively funded basic neuroscience research program. In addition to research, primary investigators are expected to participate in teaching and research training missions of the SNRI as appropriate.

Clinical Investigator status requires a full time, tenure-track appointment at Indiana University School of Medicine and an actively funded clinical neuroscience research program. While clinical investigators often have active basic neuroscience research programs, their primary research involves human subjects. In addition to research, clinical investigators are expected to participate in teaching and clinical training missions of the IUSM as appropriate.

Associate Investigators are Indiana University faculty (tenure or research track) who actively engage in research usually associated with programmatic research efforts of primary or clinical investigators or of centers. Associate investigators also participate in teaching and research training missions of the SNRI as appropriate.
